News: Adobe Patch Due Out This Week, Microsoft Warns Of Drive By Hacks…

Oh, it must be Patch Tuesday!  Fire up the internet, hope you have big bandwidth…cause you will Need It today!

Good thing this is Internet Safety Month!  :-)

Good News first - CNet is reporting that Adobe will have a patch for the Flash vulnerability by the end of this week!  You can check it out Here:  CNet Adobe Patch Update

News From Microsoft – They are warning that hackers using Social Engineering will be cruising the internet looking for victims for their 'Drive By' hacks.  They will be using infected Websites and media files to do their dirty work, so be quite careful with what you download this week!

This Patch Tuesday is a HUGE one, even by Microsoft standards!  I believe Thirty Four Patches may just be a new record for Patch Tuesday!

10 security patches are aimed a fixing the vulnerabilities that hackers will be attempting to use this week in their new attempts to compromise un-patched systems.

From The Article:

One of these bugs in particular — a Windows kernel TrueType font parsing vulnerability — was rated as the most serious Patch Tuesday fix by Joshua Talbot, security intelligence manager for Symantec.

"Exploiting this — likely through a drive-by download attack — would give an attacker near system-level privileges. It's doubtful that attackers would compromise a legitimate site to exploit this vulnerability, so users should be extra cautious of social engineering tricks coaxing them to visit unfamiliar Web pages, which could contain a malicious font."

Microsoft rates 3 other patches as even more critical than the Font vulnerability, citing the potential for other drive by hacks within 2 more vulnerabilities.

Reading through the list of patches is rather intimidating to say the least…

Let's just say that this Patch Tuesday is a doosey and you need to get your patches installed ASAP!

Here are the Microsoft article so that you can read for yourself:

InfoWorld – Microsoft Warns Of Drive-By Downloads On Patch Tuesday

Keep your AntiVirus updated, limit your downloads, and avoid PDF's and Flash Updates unless they are *really* from Adobe!

Who says the Internet isn't exciting… ;-)
