If you get a phone call from 1-216-712-1591 Watch Out!

Just got “hung-up” on by a representative from the ‘Credit Card Company’…

The recording sounded suspicious – No one gets a call from ‘The Credit Card Company”… (LOL)

Legitimate Businesses Identify Themselves

EVERY Credit Card company identifies themselves!

Amanda, the representative for the Credit Card Company, simply wanted to know:

  • How much credit card debt I have
  • What were the interest rates
  • How many cards I have
  • Which card to start working on…

I replied that I could not estimate how much debt was on there, but the rates are definitely over 10%…

Amanda really wanted to help me out. She excitedly started asking which card or account I wanted to start working with to reduce my debt…

That’s when I stopped her.

Verify Before Giving Away Your Sensitive Information

I began asking what the name of the company was.

She said “You want to know WHAT?”

I said “Please give me the company name… your pre-recorded message states no company name which is just exactly what Identity Theft rings do… so please provide your company name and/or website so that I can look you up online.”

And that’s when the phone went dead.

:-)

Learn How To Quickly Check A Company

When folks call you up and will not identify themselves you have to know this is a Huge RED Flag waving in your face!

Legitimate companies spend tons of money on the name, logo, and advertising – they are proud of what they do and want you to know about them!

Always take the time to get the company name and website. If you really think they may be on the up and up, get the phone number to call them back.

Now – Google them!

  • See if there are good things said about them
  • See if there are BAD things said about them
  • Google the phone number
  • Call them back and see if they use the company name when answering

These steps will give you *clues* about their intentions on your behalf.

Once you get this all done, be sure you share the info you discovered – Good OR Bad – with your family, friends, and your Social Networks!

When we keep sharing the info we uncover on these companies they will not be able to get as many of us on the hook… and if that is the case, it will become more trouble than it is worth to be in the shady business that they run. Which means we might see such bad behaving businesses go the way of the dinosaur forever…  :-D

So – have you Googl-ed up the phone number yet???  :-D

If you have, here is a couple of the links you may have found:

Actually, that is the ONLY page I found with any comments, and the comments are similar to my experience.

6/07/2012 – UPDATE

While cruising my ‘News Sites’ today I found a great article on The Consumerist.com – They have an article posted about warning signs to look for when selecting a Debt Relief company:

As far as I know, they are a legitimate business – but they sure have a funny way of representing their legitimate company if that is really what they are!

I guess that the moral of the story is  – No every caller is your friend, and share what you have found with your family, friends, neighbors, and Social Networks.

It’s an old phrase – “We hang together, or we hang separately” – but so true in these days. So keep hanging together!

Till we talk again, Be Safe Out There!
